I found one: the visa. When I listen to my friends, who pay 700+ \u00c3\u0192\u00c2\u00a2\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c5\u00a1\u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00ac (in advance, of course), have to fill out dozens of forms, <strong>and<\/strong> have to visit the embassy, once across Germany, I lean back and chuckle lightly.<\/p>\n<p>Applying for the visa really is a piece of cake. Two pages, in total about 60 words, and that&#8217;s it. Being used to the US questions \u00c3\u0192\u00c6\u2019\u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00a1 la <em>&#8222;Do you plan to overthrow the US government?&#8220;<\/em> or <em>&#8222;Are you a member of a radical organization?&#8220;<\/em> (like one would really check that box;) ), I only raised my eyebrows lightly at the questing <em>&#8222;Name of father or husband&#8220;<\/em>. I won&#8217;t comment on that, I guess that&#8217;s part of being intercultural&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Additional stuff I needed:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A letter of invitation (which I got by fax half a day after I asked for it from my Indian department),<\/li>\n<li>two pictures,<\/li>\n<li>a proof of payment,<\/li>\n<li>and the passport, of course<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>and that&#8217;s it \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>Oh yea, the payment. Take a guess! 200 \u00c3\u0192\u00c2\u00a2\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c5\u00a1\u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00ac? Nope, too much. 100\u00c3\u0192\u00c2\u00a2\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c5\u00a1\u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00ac? Still to much! A mere 50\u00c3\u0192\u00c2\u00a2\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c5\u00a1\u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00ac for half a year in India, plus 7\u00c3\u0192\u00c2\u00a2\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c5\u00a1\u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00ac shipping costs.<\/p>\n<p>All of the forms and information I needed are available online, at <a title=\"http:\/\/www.indianembassy.de\" href=\"http:\/\/www.indianembassy.de\">http:\/\/www.indianembassy.com<\/a> or <a title=\"http:\/\/www.indischebotschaft.de\" href=\"http:\/\/www.indischebotschaft.de\">http:\/\/www.indischebotschaft.de<\/a> (same page, different name, available in German and English).<\/p>\n<p>Well, now I have to wait and hope that I will be accepted&#8230;wish me luck, guys<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Still looking for any reasons why India is better than the US?
